Fossil fuels is the term for fuels like coal, oil and gas that were formed over time from millions of years-old organic materials - decayed plants and animals.
Risks on coal, oil and gas
Emissions from burning fossil fuels are now the single biggest source of the heat-trapping gases that cause climate change, with coal and oil being the biggest offenders. Fossil fuel companies will go to extreme lengths to get the remaining resources, and their activities are harming ecosystems and people from the Arctic to Africa.
2/3 of all remaining fossil fuel reserves must stay in the ground if we are to avoid dangerous climate change.
